Analyst I, Business Intelligence

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking an Analyst I, Business Intelligence for the Analytics and Research department. This position will be responsible for interfacing with executive and managerial leadership across multiple departments to perform ongoing research and analysis to develop and maintain reporting tools that identify and calculate performance metrics that aid in metrics-based decision making on initiatives that support HSUS’s mission to include fundraising, advocacy, and outreach.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Managing incoming analytics and reporting requests;

  • Engaging stakeholders to understand the underlying business problems, base assumptions, and desired outcomes;

  • Speaking with clients to understand, document, and qualify requirements as ad hoc or recurring performance indicators and writing reports accordingly;

  • Advising clients and making recommendations based on own observations;

  • Collaborating with department leadership to identify opportunities to apply new BI insights to various areas of the organization, and conducting further research to solve any additional problems or issues;

  • Presenting key findings to management teams and business stakeholders;

  • Identifying opportunities to improve delivery of BI insights to business stakeholders;

  • Delivering outputs within agreed-upon timelines;

  • Following standards set by department leadership around documentation and overall quality of deliverables;

  • Acting as steward for standards around data model, data dictionary, and implementation of business rules and definitions.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, BI, IT, CS, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent work experience in related fields required;

  • A minimum of one year of experience in BI, analytics, or related disciplines is desired;

  • A minimum of one year of experience with SQL or SAS programming is required;

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools to include Tableau and/or Microsoft BI required;

  • Experience with predictive analytics required;

  • Solid MS Excel, MS PowerPoint skills;

  • Working knowledge of data modeling;

  • Strong data administration / nomenclature structure disciplines;

  • Strong analysis and decision-making skills;

  • Strong business acumen, with an appreciation for the need to quickly execute in an ever-evolving competitive environment;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrable history of developing strong partnerships and cross-team collaboration;

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect, and demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy and discretion;

  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;

  • Proven project management and change management skills;

  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
